Community Power in Your Portfolio 🌞💰

Lately, it’s felt like the green economy’s been sideswiped by a Hummer.

Everywhere I turn, people are tired. The news is grim. And I can feel the quiet discouragement setting in—the sense that maybe we’ve lost momentum, that maybe the climate deniers have won this round.

But here’s the thing: the data tells a very different story.

Solar power and battery storage have never been cheaper (In fact, solar panel and battery prices have fallen roughly 90% in the last decade). And global investment in renewable energy now exceeds investment in fossil fuels. That’s huge.

The challenge? We’re adding green energy fast, but we’re not phasing out fossil fuels fast enough. If sustainable investors like us can help accelerate that shift—by pulling more money out of fossil fuels and putting it into renewables—we can move the needle faster than any politician ever will.

Big, sweeping climate policy might be stalled, but grassroots action is quietly thriving. Every time I talk to a co-op, a community solar group, or a small renewable developer, I’m reminded that the real change is happening on rooftops and on brownfields that are financed by locals who are turning their investment power into community power.

Personally, I’m proud to carve out a piece of my own portfolio for community power through projects managed by organizations like SolarShare, RE Royalties, and Brookfield Renewable Partners. You don't need to put everything there. It’s about putting something there. It’s about feeling connected again—to progress, to hope, to people.

On Tuesday, November 25, I’ll be hosting a free webinar to dig deeper into this with three people who inspire me every day:

  • Bernard Tan, Co-founder & CEO, RE Royalties

  • Jane Bird, SVP, Sustainability Management, Brookfield Renewable Partners

  • Chris Caners, General Manager, SolarShare

We’ll talk about how solar is still growing—despite Trump, despite the noise—and how community-level investing is powering the green transition from the ground up.

If you need a reminder that progress is still possible, come join us. I promise you’ll leave with a little more hope than you arrived with.

Because even when it feels like the world’s gone dark, the sun keeps shining.

Cheers, Tim
