The Unstoppable Green Transition

A Heartfelt Message From Tim
I've been tracking the green transition for a long time. Back in 2009—while we were still recovering from the shockwaves of the global financial crisis—my mentor, the late and great Hazel Henderson, invited me to collaborate on a project that would change the course of my career.
Hazel had a vision: use public data to prove that the green economy wasn’t just a fringe movement—it was already underway, and it was quickly accelerating. Together, we launched the first Green Transition Scoreboard in December 2009, and it revealed something remarkable: over $1.2 trillion had already been invested in green sectors like renewable energy, energy efficiency, and clean transportation.
That report made waves. I even got to go head-to-head with Kevin O’Leary on national TV (yes, that happened). Over the next decade, we updated the scoreboard regularly, and by 2019, the number had grown to more than $10 trillion. Throughout 2020, green investments became wildly popular - some may even say it was in a bubble.
Then… silence. COVID had gripped the world, and my business was growing so fast that it required my full-time attention. Hazel passed away in 2022. The ESG backlash hit full steam. Now, everywhere I look, the airwaves are devoid of good news stories about the growing green economy.
So I’ve decided it’s time to bring the Scoreboard back.
Why? Because I believe in the power of good news backed by solid data. Right now, there’s a loud chorus of conservative voices who treat the green transition like it’s a political bogeyman. Their worldview is stuck in 2015—or even 2005. They assume climate solutions are too expensive, they ignore the growing risks of climate inaction, and they hold so tightly to their beliefs that even market realities can’t shake them.
But here’s the thing: tens of trillions of dollars are already flowing into green projects around the world. High-speed rail. Transmission lines. District energy systems. These aren’t moonshot ideas. They’re mainstream infrastructure investments, and in Canada, we’ve fallen behind.
Governments need political cover to take bold action—and the numbers can help. When people see how massive and unstoppable the green transition has become, we create a powerful sense of momentum… and maybe even a little FOMO.
So, before I take a break this summer to welcome my daughter into the world, I’m resurrecting the Green Transition Scoreboard—and I want you to be the first to see it.
Join me on May 27th at 7pm ET for our next free webinar, The Unstoppable Green Transition. We’ll reveal the latest numbers, show where the money is flowing, and explore why this is not a trend—it’s the future.
See you there,
Tim
